Ah no, say it isn’t so, Labor Day is fast approaching, signaling the end of summer. The sun is setting earlier and the nights are a bit cooler. Although I love the changing seasons, I’ll dig my toes a little deeper into the sand to hold onto summer as long as I can.
How about if your home was decorated to reflect the relaxing days at the beach so you could enjoy summer all year? I have been working on this Cape Cod home of a Boston couple for a while now. Over the next few posts, I’ll unveil one room at a time. I would love it if you join me.
Soft ocean blue walls are a cool contrast to the blonde Cape Cod dining room table, it’s from Ikea. The triple and the single windows unite with scalloped valances and short cascades at the sides.
This triple window had a 1″ mini blind on it when we began the project. The Hunter Douglas EverWood® Alternative Wood Blinds in Cottage White won’t warp, peel or discolor from the salt air and moisture. An added bonus of the 2″ slats is the wider spacing for a less obstructed view.
The blinds close at night for complete privacy. Blinds closed during the day protect the furniture from harmful UV rays. They also keep the house cooler by blocking the intense sun.
The statement fabric is from the Barbara Barry Collection exclusive to Kravet Fabrics. It is an exceptionally fine cotton from Italy. Each scallop section features the same motif of plant life and seashells. Notice how the decorative cording along the edges resembles a bow line.
The back side of the beach theme valance is equally as attractive as the front side. A stripe of rippled ocean blue and sand beige seersucker peaks out from the backside of the cascade (longer side section) and the inside of the cones that separate the scallops.
All of the materials were selected to sublimely repeat the entire coastal theme of the house – calm and relaxed, like the beach.
During the design process, I used the beach as my drawing board, literally!
